EXPO 2017 Commissioner Rapil Zhoshybayev met with the Principal Secretary of the Ministry of Trade of Kenya – Kenyan National Section Commissioner Christopher Kiptoo at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan on March 10, 2017.
During the meeting, the sides discussed issues related to the participation of Kenya in the Exhibition, organization of the National Day and content of the Pavilion. It was noted that EXPO 2017 would give an impetus to the development of bilateral relations and increase in the trade turnover between countries. The Kenyan Commissioner informed that he attaches particular importance to the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Kazakhstan and Kenya.
Kiptoo informed that at the Exhibition Kenya intends to showcase achievements of the country in the sphere of alternative energy sources, in particular, use of solar power. In 2017, the state plans to launch a solar photovoltaic power station with the capacity of 50 MW that would cover 81 ha of deserts. The Kenyan Commissioner also noted that Kenya wants to stop using fossil fuel and transit to 100% of RES by 2050.
Following the results of the meeting, Zhoshybayev and Kiptoo signed the Agreement on Participation of Kenya in the International Specialized Exhibition EXPO 2017.
