1. The contest’s aim
Encouraging authors of the best and most objective journalistic reports, stories, and analytical pieces about Kazakhstan in foreign media outlets, as well as promoting development of professional reporting on Kazakhstan in foreign media.
2. Idea behind the contest
The contest will help to create favorable conditions for non-Kazakhstani authors who are interested in visiting the country to highlight key events and activities at national, regional and international levels.
3. Task of the contest
Promoting creation and spread in the international media of bright, qualitative, objective materials about the economy and lifestyle, culture, art and diversity of the contemporary Kazakhstan.
4. The Organizing Committee:
The Organizing Committee will hold the contest.
Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, overseeing the International Information Committee will head the Organizing Committee.
Members of the jury carry out the final examination of entries.
The Jury will consist of:
- Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan;
- Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan overseeing the International Information Committee;
-President of Kazakhstan’s Chief Editors Club.
5. Awards for the winners:
The main prize is a trip to Kazakhstan in September this year, with a visit to Astana and Almaty and the resort Borovoye that includes the provision of economy class air travel, accommodation in a hotel (four stars or above) and an extensive cultural program.
In addition, the winners will be awarded diplomas of gratitude from the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan.
Arrangement of meetings of the contest winners with government officials, scientists, experts and journalists, academia and artists of Kazakhstan will be also provided. This will open new opportunities for long-term contacts and cooperation with a professional pool of foreign journalists with the aim of qualitative, professional and unbiased highlighting of the country in the international media.
6. Geography of the contest:
Geography of the contest covers five macro regions:
- The Americas;
- CIS and Baltic States;
- Middle East and Africa;
- Asia, Australia and Oceania.
One winner will be determined from each of these macroregions.
7. The contest procedures:
Those who want to participate in the contest should provide information material placed in a foreign media of any country (except Kazakhstan) in the period between January 1, 2016, and June 25, 2016.
The Organizing Committee will accept applications by June 25, 2016.
Applications must be sent to e-mail: firstname.lastname@example.org. File Format: PDF.
Language of publication: English, Russian. If a story was placed in another language, a written translation into English, Russian, or Kazakh must be provided.
The word count of the publication should not exceed 2,000 words.
From June 27 to July 1, 2016 selection of the best applications across all geographic areas will be held. The Organizing Committee will pass to the jury the best applications so it determines a winner in geographic macro region by scoring on a 10-point scale.
The results of the contest will be announced on July 5, 2016.
Before traveling to Kazakhstan, a winner will need to sign a letter of commitment certifying that within a month after the trip he or she would produce and place in a media outlet in his or her country at least one piece about the trip.
