The current legal basis for cooperation between the Republic of Kazakhstan and Japan includes the following:
Convention on the Avoidance of Double Taxation and the Prevention of Tax Evasion with Regard to Income Taxes (entered into force in December 2009 and applied from January 1, 2010);
Agreement for Cooperation in the Peaceful Uses of Atomic Energy (entered into force on May 6, 2011);
Agreement on Mutual Protection and Promotion of Investments (entered into force on October 25, 2015).
On November 7, 2016, the ceremony of the exchange of verbal notes on the exemption from visa requirements for holders of diplomatic and service passports of citizens of Kazakhstan and Japan since January 1, 2017 took place in Astana.
