As part of a study tour to the Thai provinces organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand on July 20-21, 2018, Ambassador of Kazakhstan Ms. Raushan Yesbulatova had meetings with Permanent Secretary of the Foreign Ministry of Thailand Mrs. B.Mathelin and Governors of Buri Ram and Surin provinces Mr. A.Kaewkangwan and Mr. A.Singhawichai, as well as visited enterprises and workshops, producing cotton and silk products.
In addition to hydropower, timber and textile industries, the economy of the Isan region, where Buri Ram and Surin are located, is crop farming (growing sugar cane, pineapple, tomato, tobacco and rice).
In Surin province Ambassador R.Yesbulatova also visited the Plant Development Center under the Royal Foundation, which has been growing organic fruits and vegetables since 1988. The main purpose of the Center, covering a territory of 220 square km. also is the reproduction of high quality seeds, resistant to diseases and pests.
The participants of the trip also had an opportunity to study up with the local Program "One tambon one product" (OTOP), developed by the Government to support local production. The OTOP Program encourages village communities to improve the quality and marketing of local products, selecting one separate brand from each district.
It's worth to notice that Isan region of Thailand is also widely known for raising a large number of Muay-Thai boxers.
