First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan took part in the 74th session of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific

On May 14-15, 2018 First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan Mukhtar Tileuberdi took part in the work of 74th session of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) in Bangkok.

In the course of his speech at the ministerial segment of the event, M.Tileuberdi spoke about the progress in the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) achieved by Kazakhstan at the national and international levels. In particular, measures taken to ensure social justice, put forward by the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan
Mr. Nursultan Nazarbayev within the framework of the "Five Social Initiatives" were mentioned. The relevance of these measures was stressed in the context of the main theme of the Session: "Inequality in the era of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development". Along with this, the Kazakh diplomat informed about the implementation of projects launched on the basis of EXPO-2017, such as Astana International Financial Center, the center for "Green" technologies, the hub for the development of IT start-ups. In conclusion, an appeal was made to the ESCAP member states to support the initiative of the Head of State to allocate 1% of defense budgets to the United Nations Special Fund for Sustainable Development Goals.

Within the framework of the Session, bilateral meetings of M.Tileuberdi with the Under-Secretary General of the United Nations - Executive Secretary of the ESCAP Dr. Sh. Akhtar, the Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China Mr. Zh.Jun and the Secretary General of the Pacific Islands Development Forum Mr. F.Martel were also held.

The Session was attended by representatives of more than 50 states and international organizations that discussed topical issues of development in the Asia-Pacific region and the activities of the Commission over the past period.
