​Trade and Economic Cooperation

The trade turnover between Kazakhstan and Thailand in 2015 amounted to 76 million USD (export - 2.7 million, import - 73.3 million). In 2016, turnover was 81.8 million USD (export - 14.2 million, import - 67.6 million).

Export - metal ores, musical instruments, chemical and mineral products. Imports - cars, auto parts, printers, telephones, machinery, polyethylene, finished retail products.

As of 2016, according to Thai sources, Thailand has invested in economy of Kazakhstan more than 30 million USD, while Kazakhstan has invested in the Thai economy 9 million USD.

Intergovernmental Commission. The Joint Commission for Bilateral Cooperation between the Governments of Kazakhstan and Thailand (since 1993). Chairman of the Kazakhstani side - Minister of Labour and Social Protection of Population Tamara Duyssenova. Chairman of the Thai side - Minister of Foreign Affairs Don Pramudwinai. The first meeting of the commission was held on October 21-22, 2002 in Astana. The second meeting was held on June 21-22, 2012 in Bangkok. The third meeting was held on June 21-22, 2017 in Astana.

Trade Missions. In 2013-2016, Kazakhstan was visited by number of trade missions of Thailand in order to establish partnerships with Kazakhstani entrepreneurs and discuss the implementation of investment projects. On August 1-13, 2013, the head of the industrial park Amata Corporation Vikrom Kromadit has visited Kazakhstan. June 15-18, 2015, Kazakhstan was visited by Thai delegation consisting of more than 100 people. In 2017, seven trade missions from Thailand to Kazakhstan are expected (around 200 companies).

Thematic Workshop "Free trade between the Customs Union and Thailand" (July 2014). Seminar "Trade and investment opportunities between Kazakhstan and Thailand" (August 2014). International conference "Investment and business opportunities in Kazakhstan" (February 16, 2015). Seminar "Kazakhstan and Thailand, new business opportunities" (May 11, 2015.). A series of workshops on "Investment opportunities of Kazakhstan and legal regulation of foreign investments" (May 30, 2015 and June 6, 2015). The business forum "Kazakhstan and Thailand: innovation, investment and partnership" (April 3, 2016). International Seminar "Investment and business opportunities in Kazakhstan" (September 16, 2016). Business forum "Kazakhstan: potential market for Thai entrepreneurs" (February 27, 2017). Business-seminar "Kazakhstan - my love" (May 30, 2017).Kazakh-Thai business forum with the participation of Thai investors and Kazakh entrepreneurs was held on June 27, 2017 in Almaty.

Energy. In 2015-2016, Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Thailand Marat Yessenbayev has held several meetings with the Minister of Energy of Thailand and the management of Thai energy company PTT Plc. As a result, PTT is considering of buying oil from KazMunayGas. Negotiations are currently underway between KazMunayGas Trading and PTT Plc.

In December 2017, Ambassador R.Yesbulatova met with the new Minister of Energy of Thailand Siri Jirapongphan, during which the interest of the Thai side to cooperate in the field of fossil fuels was confirmed.

On April 19, 2017, the Ambassador of the Republic of Kazakhstan M. Yessenbaev met with Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Thailand P. Chan-o-cha. The head of the Thai government focused on the prospects for bilateral cooperation in the energy field, emphasizing that energy is of great interest to Thai investors. P. Chan-o-cha asked the leadership of Kazakhstan to support Thai investments to the energy sector of Kazakhstan.

Vice Minister of Energy of the Kingdom of Thailand S.Srisak paid a visit to Kazakhstan on June 9, 2017 (within the framework of EXPO-2017).

Ministry of Energy of the Kingdom of Thailand A. Kanjanarat paid a visit to Kazakhstan on July 1, 2017(within the framework of EXPO-2017).

EXPO-2017. In June 2016, Thailand has officially confirmed its participation at EXPO-2017. On August 8-9, 2016, the Commissioner of EXPO-2017 Rapil Zhoshybayev visited Thailand. On August 18-20, 2016, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Energy of Thailand - Commissioner of Thailand's Section at EXPO-2017 Areepong Bhoocha-Oom visited Astana and signed the Agreement of Participation of Thailand at EXPO-2017. Thai pavilion area - 934.05 sq.m. The National Day of Thailand during EXPO-2017 was held on July 1, 2017. The head of the delegation to the National Day was Minister of Energy of Thailand A. Kanjanarat. Cultural Day of Thailand at EXPO-2017 was held on August 12, 2017. Deputy Prime Ministers of Thailand T.Patimaprakorn and P.Jungtong, Minister of Digital Economy and Society P.Durongkaveroj were part of the Thai delegation.

Tourism. The annual flow of Kazakh tourists in Thailand - 70 thousand. Air Astana carries out direct flights between Astana – Bangkok and Almaty – Bangkok. In 2016, with support of the Embassy of Kazakhstan, Air Astana has signed a code share agreement with and Bangkok Airways and Interline agreement with Thai Airways International.

In 2016, large Thai hotel business company Minor Group has established a partnership with Kazakhstani holding ALMALY on opening in Kazakhstan network of hotels and apartments.

Minister of Tourism and Sports of Thailand K.Vattanavrankul paid a working visit to Kazakhstan on August 4-5, 2016 .

Chemical. Thai company Oranvanich exports chrysotile from Kazakhstan (JSC Kostanay Minerals) to Thailand (2015 - 7 thousand tons, in 2016 - 5 thousand tons).

Agriculture. In 2016, the largest agricultural company Charoen Pokphand Group has opened in Kazakhstan representative office of its subsidiary company Perfect Companion Group. It is the leader in Asia for the production of pet food.

Automotive. Thai company RMA Group in Kazakhstan is implementing the project for the assembly and sale of passenger cars and specialised vehicles.
