Diplomatic relations between the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Kingdom of Thailand were established on July 6, 1992.
The Diplomatic Mission of Kazakhstan in Bangkok was opened in 1997 (reorganized into the Embassy in 2012). Since 2017, the Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Thailand is Ms. R.Yesbulatova.
The Embassy of the Kingdom of Thailand in Kazakhstan was opened in 2012. Since January 2019, Ambassador of Thailand to Kazakhstan is Mr. Russ Jalichandra.

President of the Republic of Kazakhstan N.Nazarbayev paid an official visit to the Kingdom of Thailand in July 1993.
High level contacts
Princess of Thailand Maha Chakri Sirindhorn paid an official visit to the Republic of Kazakhstan (April 17-20, 2005) and twice did private visits (April 6, 2015 and April 10, 2016).
In June 2006, an official visit of the Prime Minister of Thailand, T.Shinawatra took place in Kazakhstan in the framework of participation in the 2nd CICA Summit.
At the level of Deputy Prime-Ministers of Thailand, Kazakhstan was visited by S.Satirathai (May 2005), T.Patimaprakorn and P.Juntong (August 2017, within the participation to the Thai Cultural Day at EXPO 2017).
Contacts at the Ministerial level
In October 2004, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Thailand S.Satirathai visited Kazakhstan. The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan K.Tokayev paid a working visit to Thailand in May 2005 to attend the 61st Session of UN ESCAP. The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Thailand, K.Piromya took part in the OSCE Ministerial Council held in Kazakhstan in July 2010.
The First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan M.Tleuberdi took part in the 74th (11-16 May 2018) and 75th (27-28 May 2019) Sessions of UN ESCAP in Bangkok.
November 2-4, 2016 and May 3-5, 2018 (participation in the 86th Session of the Executive Committee of the Asian Parliamentarians Forum on Population and Development) the Vice-Chairman of the Mazhilis of the Parliament of Kazakhstan G.Issimbayeva visited Thailand.
On March 20-23, 2017, a Parliamentary delegation of Kazakhstan consisting of MPs A.Zhailganova and Sh.Utemisov participated in the Regional conference of the Asian Parliamentarians Forum on Population and Development.
On February 13-15, 2019, Senator of Kazakhstan A.Kurtaev took part in the meeting of the Standing Committee on Social and Cultural Affairs of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly, held in Bangkok.
Kazakhstan and Thailand were competitors for non-permanent membership in the UN Security Council in 2017-2018.
On May 21-23, 2015, the Secretary General of the Asian Council for Peace and Accord, K.Chutikul visited Kazakhstan, where met with the Prime-Minister of Kazakhstan and participated in the AEF.
The delegation of Kazakhstan took part in Asia Cooperation Dialogue Summit held in Bangkok on October 8-10, 2016.
During the 73rd Session of the UN General Assembly Thailand supported the initiatives of Kazakhstan to adopt the Code of Conduct to achieve a World free of terrorism, and the UNGA resolution on the “Universal Declaration on building a world free of nuclear weapons”.
The delegation of Thailand, headed by the Special Representative of the Prime-Minister of Thailand took part in the CICA Summit in Dushanbe (June 15, 2019).
The annual flow of Kazakh tourists to Thailand is about 70 thousand. Air Astana operates direct Nur-Sultan - Bangkok and Almaty - Bangkok flights. In 2016, with the support of the Embassy, Air Astana concluded code-sharing agreements with Thai airlines, Thai Airways and Bangkok Airways.
In 2016, the largest Thai hotel business “Minor Group” company, established a partnership with the “Almaly” Kazakh holding company in opening a hotel chain in Kazakhstan.
On August 4-5, 2016, the Minister of Tourism and Sports of Thailand, K.Vattanavrangkul visited Kazakhstan on a working visit.
On July 16, 2017, Minister of Tourism and Sports of Thailand K.Vattanavrangkul visited Kazakhstan (within the EXPO 2017).
