NUR-SULTAN, June 11, 2019 - Minister of Foreign Affairs Beibut Atamkulov met with senators of the National Congress of the Federative Republic of Brazil, Francisco de Assis Rodriguesand Jaques Wagner, who arrived in Nur-Sultan to observe Kazakhstan's presidential election.
The Foreign Ministernoted that the elections were a clear demonstration of the will of the people of Kazakhstan to live in a progressive, democratic country open to international partners.
Senator Rodrigues, who is also the Representative of the President of Brazil in the Senate, congratulated Kazakhstan on the well-coordinated organisation of the election and emphasized the transparency of the process at polling stations. SenatorWagner noted that he was impressed by the work of the Kazakhstan's Central Election Commission. In his opinion, the results of the election demonstratedthe country'sstrong commitment to democratic development.
During the meeting, the sides discussed topical issues of Kazakh-Brazilian bilateral relations, paying particular attention to their inter-parliamentary cooperation.
Head of the Parliamentary Group for Cooperation with Kazakhstan in the Senate of Brazil, Mr. Rodrigues, expressed his willingness to strengthen connections, share experiences and promote important international initiatives in cooperation with Kazakhstan.
The Foreign Minister stressed the importance of inter-parliamentary diplomacy in the development of relations, and called on Brazilian parliamentarians to actively promote the expansion of trade and economic ties, given that Brazil was Kazakhstan's main trading partner in Latin America.
Noting the successful activities of such major companies as NAC Kazatomprom JSC and Embraer in the markets of the two countries, the Foreign Minister stressed that “last year, bilateral trade between Kazakhstan and Brazil exceeded 150 million US dollars, and this indicator has serious prospects for growth."
