Cooperation of Kazakhstan with international organizations discussed in Geneva
GENEVA, 27-28 February 2019 – Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan H.E. Mr. Yerzhan Ashikbayev held meetings with the heads of international organizations in Geneva.
During the meeting with the UN High Commissioner on Human Rights Michelle Bachelet the Deputy Minister reaffirmed the commitment of Kazakhstan to the promotion and protection of human rights, informed about the ongoing reforms in the economic and social spheres and expressed the readiness to continue constructive engagement with the UN Human Rights mechanisms.
At the meeting with the President of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) Mr. Peter Maurer, Kazakh diplomat noted close cooperation within the completed membership of Kazakhstan in the UN Security Council, in particular in terms of responding to humanitarian crises, stressed the importance cooperation in developing Kazakhstan's peacekeeping potential and joint promotion of nuclear disarmament issues. The sides welcomed the upcoming opening of the ICRC office in Kazakhstan.
Mr. Ashikbayev and Secretary-General of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Mr. Houlin Zhao discussed prospects of cooperation in the field of information technology and exchanged their views on issues of interaction in the field of information Security. The parties agreed to develop the e-health system of Kazakhstan with the support of ITU.
At the meeting with the Head of International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (ICAN) Beatrice Fihn sides exchanged their views on the current situation in the field of nuclear disarmament and discussed perspectives of cooperation between Kazakhstan and ICAN were discussed.
During the meeting with the Secretary-General of the UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) Mr. Mukhisa Kituyi, the main discussions were held on the completion of joint projects with UNCTAD on the implementation of automated customs system ASTANA-1 and the Single window for export-import operations in Kazakhstan. The parties agreed to continue further cooperation directed to the improvement of investment policy of Kazakhstan, and support of landlocked developing countries.
