Kazakhstan celebrates people’s Unity Day

Today, May 1, Kazakhstan celebrates the Day of Unity of people, Kazpravda.kz reports.

Before the republic gained its independence, Labor Day was celebrated on this day.

October 18, 1995, the First President of Kazakhstan, Nursultan Nazarbayev, signed a decree declaring May 1 as the Day of Unity of Kazakhstan people.

Every year since 1996, throughout the republic, celebrations are held - concerts, fairs, festivals.

The goal of the holiday is the strengthening of stability and inter-ethnic harmony, demonstration of the achievements of the Kazakhstan model of intercultural dialogue.

Various cultural centers participate in the celebrations; they introduce traditions and culture of the peoples they represent.

Labor groups, university students, and representatives of various public associations also take part in the holiday.

On May 1, every town of Kazakhstan holds entertainment, cultural, social, political and festive events.

Festivals, thematic performances, exhibitions, concerts dedicated to the Day of Unity of the people of Kazakhstan will be held in theaters, museums and other cultural institutions of the city. In honor of the holiday, various sports competitions will be organized in the capital. In total, Nur-Sultan has planned more than 20 festive events.
