Kazakhstan participated in the regular meeting of the WTO TBT Committee

On November 8-9, 2017 delegation of Kazakhstan headed by Deputy Chairman of the Committee of Public Health Protection of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan Mr.B.Sharip participated in the regular meeting of the WTO TBT Committee.

In the course of the meeting WTO members raised over 50 specific trade concerns related to technical barriers to trade. In particular, exporting WTO members raised concerns with respect to the requirement to disclose source code of products posed due to the increasing tendency of protecting by countries from cybersecurity threats by establishing additional mandatory requirements to electronic transmission of information. Moreover, WTO Members expressed concerns regarding negative tendencies of stringening conformity assessment regimes for toys, processed food products, cement and chemical materials.

At the meeting Kazakhstan delegation replied to the questions and comments of EU, the USA and Ukraine on the draft amendments to the EAEU Technical Regulation “On Safety of Toys" notified to the WTO in June 2016. In particular, Kazakhstan explained the safety reasons for proposing requirements to phantasy dolls, which potentially can affect children's psychological health. Besides, WTO Members were informed that authorized bodies of the RK are discussing the possibility of introduction of age grading recommendations of ISO standard 8124.
