Center of world gravity returns to East - Nazarbayev

The first President of Kazakhstan - Nursultan Nazarbayev took part in the opening ceremony of the Second International Forum One Belt, One Road, reports.

Nursultan Nazarbayev noted that over the past thirty years there have been many concepts of the revival of the Silk Road in Eurasia, which have not been implemented.

"The Silk Road model proposed in 2013 by China has become not only viable in modern geopolitical conditions, but also successful over the past five and a half years of its development," he said.

Nursultan Nazarbayev emphasized that despite the political contradictions, sanctions and trade wars, the growth of trade in the framework of the initiative is growing and already amounts to more than 5 trillion dollars.

He called the initiative One Belt, One Road a new model of globalization. "The historical cycle is once again returning the center of world gravity to the East. We see that today Asia has indeed become a region of the 21st century. 28% of world GDP is concentrated here and this figure will only grow. Already, the trend of easternization offers new cooperation guidelines," said the First President of Kazakhstan.

He also pointed to the existing potential for linking the Silk Road Economic Belt project and the Eurasian Economic Union and dwelt separately on the results of infrastructural development and enhancement of transit and transport potential.

"Over the past ten years, Kazakhstan has invested about $ 30 billion in infrastructure development, transport and logistics. Almost 3,000 kilometers of national railways and 12,500 kilometers of motorways have been upgraded or commissioned. Domestic sea and air harbors have been reconstructed. As a result, a modern and competitive transit hub was created in the country in a short time," he said.

In addition, Nazarbayev spoke about the logistics projects implemented with the active participation of Kazakhstan. Since 2016, the plan to link the Nurly Zhol program with the Silk Road Economic Belt has been successfully implemented.
