Statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan on the nuclear test in the DPRK

On September 3 2017, the government of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea announced its testing of a hydrogen bomb.

Kazakhstan categorically condemns the DPRK's unacceptable violation of UN Security Council resolutions.

As joint co-chair of the 9th Conference under Article XIV of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty, Kazakhstan believes these actions will significantly set back global efforts to strengthen the nuclear non-proliferation and disarmament agenda, while posing a serious threat to peace and security in the Korean peninsula and wider region.

Kazakhstan advocates a total and global ban on nuclear testing. We once again call on North Korea to abandon its nuclear ambitions and immediately engage in multilateral negotiations.
