The strategic nature of cooperation between Kazakhstan and Turkey is underpinned by common historical roots and cultural values

The official visits of President Nursultan Nazarbayev to Turkey on October 11-12, 2012 and Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan to Kazakhstan on May 22-24, 2012 gave a powerful impulse to further development of Kazakh-Turkish
bilateral relations.

As a result of these visits, the two countries have agreed to establish the High Level Strategic Cooperation Council, to introduce the 'New Synergy' Joint Economic Programme and the Action Plan for its implementation.

Turkey is one of the major trade and economic partners of Kazakhstan. According to the national Agency for statistics, the volume of bilateral trade between Kazakhstan and Turkey amounted to 3.496 billion US dollars in 2013 (export - 2.595 billion US dollars, import - 901 billion US dollars).
Kazakh - Turkish Intergovernmental Economic Commission is an effective mechanism that facilitates strengthening of trade and economic cooperation between the two countries. Kazakhstan and Turkey actively cooperate in cultural and manitarian
spheres, such as exchange of experience and development of ties between the twin towns and sister cities in the two countries.
