​Kazakh-Uzbek Business Forum Held in Tashkent

TASHKENT, March 13, 2019 – The Kazakh-Uzbek business forum was recently held in Tashkent, attended by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan Yermek Kosherbayev and the Deputy Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade of Uzbekistan Laziz Kudratov.

The forum was attended by over 200 representatives of businesses, national companies and government agencies of the two countries.

In his statement, the Kazakh Deputy Minister emphasised that increasing trade, intensifying investment cooperation, and developing transport and logistics cooperation were the three focus areas for the development of economic relations between Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan.

Investment opportunities and the export potential of Kazakhstan, the benefits of joint cooperation, and the prospects for the further promotion of trade and economic partnership between the two states were presented during the forum.

On the sidelines of the event, bilateral meetings were held between Kazakh and Uzbek entrepreneurs, who discussed cooperation in industries including agribusiness, light and food industries, construction, chemical industry, and mechanical engineering.

The forum was organised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan, Atameken, the Chamber of International Commerce of Kazakhstan and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan.

Trade turnover between Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan in 2018 reached $2.5 billion, an increase of more than 25% compared to 2017. Kazakh exports to Uzbekistan grew by 32% to $1.6 billion, and imports to Kazakhstan grew by 15% to $845 million.
