Kazakhstan - Bosnia and Herzegovina

Overview

December 20, 1996 – establishment of diplomatic relations between the Republic of Kazakhstan and Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Since September 2016 – Mustafa Muezinovich is Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Bosnia and Herzegovina to the Republic of Kazakhstan with concurrent accreditation.

Since May 2017 – TolezhanBarlybayev is Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Kazakhstan to the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina with concurrent accreditation (not accredited).

Political contacts

Political relations between the two countries are developing in a spirit of mutual understanding and trust. The side's positions on the major issues of international politics are close. Bosnia and Herzegovina was a consistent supporter of Kazakhstan's applications for chairmanship in OSCE and EXPO-2017 in Astana.

The highest level visits

Chairman of the Presidium of B&H NeboishaRadmanovich took part in the OSCE Summit in Astana on December 1-2, 2010.

In September 2017 Member of the Presidium of B&H BakirIzetbegovich took part in the work of First Summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation on science and technology in Astana, during which meeting with the Chairman of the Majilis of the Parliament of the Kazakhstan N.Nigmatulin took place.

The high level visits

The official visit of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of B&H Sven Alkalai to Astana took place in May 2007. During the visit he met with the Speaker of the Senate of Parliament N.Abykayevand Prime Minister of KazakhstanK.Massimov.

In October 2008 Minister of Foreign Affairs of B&H Sven Alkalai took part in the Ministerial Conference of Muslim and Western countries "Common World: Progress Through Diversity".

On March 15, 2010 Foreign Minister of B&H Sven Alkalai visited Astana. During the talks the sides exchanged views on topical issues of international relations, bilateral cooperation and interaction within the framework of Kazakhstan's chairmanship in the OSCE.

On March 17, 2010, Special Envoy of the OSCE, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan Konstantin Zhigalov visited Sarajevo as a part of tour along the Balkan region.

On July 16-17, 2010 Minister of Foreign Affairs of B&H Sven Alkalai took part in the Informal Meeting of OSCE Foreign Ministers in Almaty.

On March 5, 2015 Special Envoy of the President of the Republic of Kazahstan N.Nazarbayev, the Deputy Chairman of the Mazhilis of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan S.Dyachenko visited B&H.

Trade and economic co-operation

Bilateral trade turnover between Kazakhstan and B&H by in January-November of 2017 amounted to 709,9 thousand USD (export- 189,4thousand USDimport- 519,6thousand USD). In 2016 the bilateral trade amounted797thousand USD (all – Kazakhstan's imports).

Contractual and legal framework

Since 2010 the Memorandum on cooperation between the foreign ministries is acting, and since 2012 the Agreement on visa-free regime for holders of diplomatic and service passports of the two countries is acting.

A number of fundamental agreements are on consideration of the parties – on trade and economic cooperation, on air communication, on automobile transportation, on cooperation in tourism.

Currently there is a process of preparation for signing the Agreement on legal assistance in civil and commercial matters.

Also, the Ministry of Justice of B&H and the Prosecutor General of Kazakhstan have started the preparation of the three treaties: the extradition of persons; on the transfer of sentenced persons; on mutual legal assistance in criminal matters.
