Diplomatic relations between Kazakhstan and Chile were established on August 19, 1993.
Concurrent Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Chile (with residence in Brasilia) is Kairat Sarzhanov (since 2016).
Concurrent Ambassador of Chile to Kazakhstan (with residence in Moscow) is Rodrigo Nieto (since 2017).
Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan Erlan Idrissov visited Santiago on September 30, 2013. Negotiations at the level of Deputy Foreign Ministers of Kazakhstan and Chile were organized in Astana on September 29, 2016 and in Santiago on May 3, 2017, where Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan Erzhan Ashikbayev led the first meeting of Kazakhstan-Chilean inter-ministerial consultations.
Development of cooperation was facilitated by the organization of the International Specialized Exhibition Astana EXPO 2017, where Chile was represented in the Latin American pavilion. Deputy Minister of Energy of Chile Jimena Jara visited Kazakhstan during the EXPO.
The legal framework of bilateral cooperation between Kazakhstan and Chile includes documents in the area of political consultations, on visa matters and others.
In January – November 2017, bilateral trade reached 6.5 million US dollars including 22.6 thousand in export and 6.49 million in import.
