On March 14, 2019, within the framework of the visit of the delegation of the Almaty region to the Kingdom of Thailand, Governor A.Batalov met with the Vice-Governor of Bangkok K.Sudlabha.
The parties discussed the prospects for mutually beneficial cooperation in the field of trade, tourism, culture and sports. The Head of the Almaty region acquainted the interlocutor with the investment, export and transit potential of one of the key Kazakhstan regions. Information on tourist attractive natural, historical and cultural sites of the Almaty region was also presented. Given the rich experience of Bangkok in the field of tourism and hotel business, the Thai side is invited to share experiences in this industry.
At the same time, a Kazakh-Thai business forum was held at the site of the Board of Investment of Thailand with the participation of business circles of Thailand from the agro-industrial, food, oil and gas, tourism, construction and other industries. Governor of Almaty region A.Batalov, Ambassador of Kazakhstan R.Yesbulatova and Director of the Department of Foreign Investments of the BOI Ch.Tangkoonsombati delivered a welcoming speech.
During the panel sessions, the manager of the National investment company “Kazakh Invest", D. Aitkulov presented to the Thai side with detailed information on measures taken by Kazakhstan to create a favorable investment climate, including tax and customs benefits, privileges to attract foreign labor, protection of investors, about investment opportunities in the framework of special economic and industrial zones, as well as on current projects in the field of agriculture, food and light industry, petrochemical industry and others. Following the results of the presentations, there was a discussion about the prospects for mutually beneficial trade, economic and investment cooperation between Kazakhstan and Thailand, and answers were given to the questions of Thai businessmen.
In the Second part of the event, the Kazakhstan delegation held bilateral meetings with representatives of Thai companies within the framework of three thematic groups in the following areas - trade and investment, agriculture and food industry, as well as tourism and passenger traffic. As part of the discussions, the largest oil and Gas Company in Thailand “PTT Public Company limited" showed significant interest in investing to the energy sector of Kazakhstan. Following the meetings, a preliminary agreement was also reached on organizing a hotel training course in the Almaty region with the participation of Thailand's leading managers.
It should be noted that Kazakhstan, being the largest economy in Central Asia, is of considerable interest to Thai business and investment circles. In this context, the business forum became a vivid example of the successful implementation of work in the format “MFA – Overseas Missions – Regions", allowing businessmen of the two countries to establish direct contacts. In order to enhance cooperation in the trade and economic spheres this summer, the Embassy of Kazakhstan in Thailand, together with the Ministry of Commerce and the Board of Investment of Thailand are planning to organize business tours to Kazakhstan with the participation of Thai companies.
