ALMATY, February 1, 2019- A regular meeting of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council (EIC)was held at the level of the heads of government of the five member countries of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU).
The meeting was attended by the prime ministers of Kazakhstan Bakytzhan Sagintayev, the Russian Federation — Dmitry Medvedev, the Republic of Belarus — Syarhey Rumas, the Kyrgyz Republic — Muhammadkaliy Abylgaziyev, Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia, Mher Grigoryan and Chairman of the Board of the Eurasian Economic Commission Tigran Sargsyan.
During the meeting, a number of relevant issues of integration cooperation within the EAEU were discussed. The heads of government summed up the interim results of the implementation of the agreements and identified areas for further work in the EAEU.
Special attention was paid to the trade and economic cooperation and expansion of mutual trade between the member states, removing obstacles within the framework of the internal market of the EAEU, as well as the development of integration potential in certain sectors of the economy.
One of the key agenda items was the signing of the Shipping Agreement, designed to simplify the access to the inland waterways of the EAEU member states.
The heads of delegations of Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Russia also took part in the second digital forum: “Digital Agenda in the Era of Globalization 2.0. Innovation Ecosystem of Eurasia". Within the Forum relevant issues of interaction of digital ecosystems to support and promote innovation and technological entrepreneurship, with the participation of leading representatives of international scientific and expert communities, were discussed.
The next meeting of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council will be held in late April – early May, 2019, in Yerevan.
