January 15, 2009 – the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Principality of Monaco established diplomatic relations.
May 28, 2010 - Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Kazakhstan to the Principality of Monaco in combination (with residence in Paris) Nurlan Danenov presented his credentials to the Prince of Monaco Albert II.
March 28, 2013 - Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Monaco in Kazakhstan in combination (with residence in London) Evelyne Genta presented her credentials to the Secretary of State of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
October 4, 2011 – opening of the Honorary Consulate of Kazakhstan in Monaco. Honorary Consul is Vladimir Semenikhin (General Honorary Consul since 2015).
From May 16, 2012, Kairat Orazbekov is an Honorary Consul of Monaco in Kazakhstan.
On November 2-5, 2012, His Serene Highness Albert II, the reigning Prince of Monaco paid his first visit to Kazakhstan.
The official visit of President Nursultan Nazarbayev to Monaco on September 27-28, 2013 was an occasion for the signing the intergovernmental agreement on cooperation in the field of tourism.
March 5-6, 2015, Kazakh Prosecutor General A.Daulbayev paid a visit to Monaco. Negotiations with the Chairman of the State Council, Chairman of the Supreme Court, Minister of Justice of the Principality of Monaco Ph.Narmino took place. During the meeting, both sides discussed the main issues of bilateral cooperation in combating crime, money laundering, ensuring the rule of law and international security. The meeting resulted in the signing of an intergovernmental Treaty between Kazakhstan and the Principality of Monaco on mutual legal assistance in criminal matters.
On June 12, 2015, Deputy Minister of foreign affairs of Kazakhstan A.Volkov met with the Counsellor of the Government of Monaco of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation G.Tonelli. They discussed further development of bilateral relations. A.Volkov handed a letter of the President of Kazakhstan N.Nazarbayev to the Prince of Monaco Albert II requesting support of the candidature of Kazakhstan as non-permanent member of UN SC for 2017-2018.
Trade and economic cooperation
According to the statistics of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the commodity turnover with Monaco for 2015 amounted to 261.8 thousand US doll. (import only).
The major share in foreign trade accounts for medicines, semi-finished metal, mechanical parts and consumer goods.
On September 26, 2013 it was held Kazakh-Monegasque business forum with the participation of more than 100 companies on each side. An agreement between the Chamber of commerce and industry of Kazakhstan and Chamber of economic development of Monaco on creation of Business Council and several MoUs between the companies of two countries on priority projects were concluded.
Monaco is one of the first countries that officially confirmed its participation in EXPO 2017 in Astana. On January 2016, Principality appointed its Commissioner to exhibition and in February it was signed a Treaty on participation of Monaco in the event.
Cultural and humanitarian cooperation
In December 2013 – January 2014 an exhibition of Kazakh artists “Shanyrak – Voûte Céleste" was held in one of the most prestigious art galleries of Monte-Carlo.
On October 1, 2014 Deputy D.Nazarbayeva participated and performed on charity dinner of European organization of research and fight against cancer in Monaco. The Prince Albert II heads charity Fund of this organization.
