1 June 1992 - Grand Duchy of Luxembourg has recognized the sovereignty of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
29 June 1992 - between Kazakhstan and the Luxembourg diplomatic relations were established.
8 June 2012 - Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Luxembourg in combination is A.Khamzayev (with residence in Brussels).
8 February 2012 - Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Luxembourg in Kazakhstan (in combination with a residence in Moscow) P.Ferring handed his credentials to the Secretary of State of the Republic of Kazakhstan M. Kul-Muhammed.
Since the establishment of diplomatic relations the President of Republic of Kazakhstan N.Nazarbayev met with a Prime Minister of Luxembourg J.-C.Juncker during his official visit in 2006 and during his official visit in 2010 to Brussels, and also official visit of the Prime-Minister of Kazakhstan K.Masimov to Luxembourg in May 2012.
Prime-Minister of Luxembourg J.-C.Juncker also visited Kazakhstan in June 2008 , Deputy Prime Minister - Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Duchy of Luxembourg J. Asselborn (in July and December 2010).
A working visit of Prime Minister K.Masimov of Kazakhstan was committed in 2-3 May 2012, during which he met with Grand Duke of Luxembourg Henri, Prime Minister of Luxembourg J.-C.Juncker, Chairman of Parliament of Luxembourg L.Mozar and the others political figures. Following the results of visit 6 documents, including 2 intergovernmental and 4 interministerial characters were signed.

Trade and economic cooperation
On the result of 2015 the volume of trade amounted to 11,405 million USD.
From Luxembourg to Kazakhstan vehicles are imported, electrical equipment, plastics and its articles, rubbers, textile articles and base metals.
Cultural and humanitarian cooperation
28-30 September 2007, Kazakh delegation with representatives of the Assembly of Peoples of Kazakhstan, Deputies of the Majilis of the Parliament, Chairmen of the different national and cultural centers, rectors of some leading universities of the country, visited Luxembourg. One of the main events during the visit, jointly organized with the European Institute of Culture named after P.Verner, was the organization of a "round table" regarding "Cultural diversity and inter-ethnic harmony in Kazakhstan."
