Diplomatic relations between Republic of Kazakhstan and Georgia were established on July 23, 1992
In 1992 the Embassy of Georgia in the Republic of Kazakhstan was established in Almaty and in 2003 the Embassy moved to Astana.
Since July 2 2013 Zurab Pataradze was appointed in the capacity ofAmbassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Georgia to the Republic of Kazakhstan.
In September 1996 the Embassy of the Republic of Kazakhstan, concurrently accredited tothe Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Georgia was established.
In 2003, the Diplomatic Mission of the Republic of Kazakhstan was opened in Tbilisi.
In January 2008 the Diplomatic Mission of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Georgia was transformed into the Embassy under the Presidential Decree № 525, dated 28.01.2008.
On April 3, 2013 Ermukhamet Kabidinovich Yertysbaev was appointed as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Georgia.
Since gaining independence, Kazakhstan and Georgia have been developing their relations on the basis of the principles of partnership and mutually beneficial cooperation.
Kazakhstan and Georgia signed more than 40 agreements on various aspects of bilateral cooperation. The main document is the Treaty on Basic Relations between Kazakhstan and Georgia, signed on June 1, 1993.
In October 2005, Kazakhstan’s President Nursultan Nazarbayev conducted an official visit to Georgia.
On January 10-11, 2006 The President of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili attended the inauguration ceremony of President Nursultan Nazarbayev.
On March5-6, 2007 President of Georgia Mikhail Saakashvili held a working visit to Kazakhstan.
In July 2008, Saakashvili visited Astana to take part in the celebration of the 10th anniversary of the capital of Kazakhstan.
Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili participated in the OSCE Summit, held on December 1-2, 2010 in Astana.
In April 2010, Prime Ministerof Georgia N.Gilauri conducted a working visit to Kazakhstan.
On December 6-7, 2011, Prime Minister of GeorgiaGilauri paid a working visitto Kazakhstan.
On November 17, 2012 Deputy Prime Minister's Orynbaev visited Tbilisi.
On May 27, 2013 Georgian Deputy Prime Minister of Energy K.Kaladze visited Astana in the framework of a working visit.
On November 17, 2013, Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan Orynbaev took part in the inauguration ceremony of the President of Georgia Giorgi Margvelashvili.
In May 2010, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia Vashadze visited Astana.
On February 17, 2010 Secretary of State - Minister of Foreign Affairs Kanat Saudabayev visited Tbilisi in the capacity of the OSCE Chairman.
The states actively develop inter-parliamentary cooperation. The Parliaments of the two states has set up and are operating an inter-parliamentary group of friendship and cooperation.
Trade and economic cooperation
According to the Agency of Statistics of Kazakhstan, the trade turnover between Kazakhstan and Georgia for the 2013 amounted to $135.3 mln, with export being$62.8 mln andimport making$72.5 million This15.1% lower than in 2012 ($159.3 mln).
In January-February 2014 bilateral trade amounted to $17.0 mln (export made 7.2 mln, whileimport made 9.8 million dollars).
The Kazakh-Georgian intergovernmental commission on trade and economic cooperation was established to serve as an efficient mechanism for expanding bilateral trade and economic relations and identifyingpriority areas of cooperation. The 6th meeting of the commission was held on June 10-11,2013 in Astana. The Kazakhs co-Chair was the Minister of Transport and Communications A. Zhumagaliyev, while the Georgian co-chair was Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development G.Kvirikashvili.
The Kazakh-Georgian business forum in Tbilisi, conducted with the assistance of «KAZNEX INVEST» on October 8-9, 2013, gave a new impetus to the development of bilateral trade and economic cooperation between the two states.
In 2010, the Kazakh «SKAT» airline openedan «Astana Aktau-Tbilisi-Aktau-Astana» route.
Since June 2011 the «Air Astana» airline has been carrying out direct flights on the route Almaty-Tbilisi-Almaty three times a week.
