Kazakhstan informed WTO Members on recognition of food-and-mouth disease free zones by OIE

On 13-14 July 2017 Kazakhstan's delegation participated at the regular meeting of the WTO Committee on Sanitary and Phytosanitary Measures. The representative of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan made a presentation on the work conducted to obtain the status of foot and mouth disease free zone of the Republic of Kazakhstan from the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE).

In 2015 at the 83 General Session of the Assembly of the OIE Members (Paris), Kazakhstan was officially awarded a Certificate on the status of foot-and-mouth disease free country without vaccination in 9 regions (Akmola, Karaganda, Pavlodar, Kostanai, North-Kazakhstan, West-Kazakhstan, Aktobe, Atyrau and Mangystau regions). In May 2017 at the 85 General Session of the Assembly of the OIE Members (Paris), Kazakhstan was officially awarded a Certificate on obtaining the status of foot-and-mouth disease free country with vaccination in 5 regions (Almaty, East-Kazakhstan, Zhambyl, Kyzylorda and South-Kazakhstan regions). In the future, the five regions are planning to discontinue vaccination of farm animals and obtain the status of foot-and-mouth disease free status without vaccination.

Obtaining by the Republic of Kazakhstan the status of diseases free zone or country from OIE will contribute to increasing of export potential of Kazakhstan's livestock products and improvement of investment attractiveness of the country's agricultural sector.
