Foreign Ministers of Caspian Littoral States Discuss Preparation to Caspian Summit

AKTAU, August 11, 2018 –The Meeting of the Foreign Ministers of the Caspian Littoral States was held on the eve of the Fifth Caspian Summit in Aktau.

The meeting was attended by Foreign Ministers of Azerbaijan – Elmar Mammadyarov, Iran – Javad Zarif, Kazakhstan – Kairat Abdrakhmanov, Russia – Sergey Lavrov and Turkmenistan – Rashid Meredov.

“Today, thanks to the progressive aspiration to reach compromise and the search for mutually acceptable solutions, we have managed to come to a consensus on all issues related to interaction in the Caspian Sea. This is proved by the draft Convention on the Legal Status of the Caspian Sea to be signed by the presidents,"- Abdrakhmanov said.

The Kazakh Foreign Minister noted that the parties have consolidated approaches with regard to the limits of sovereignty, sovereign and exclusive rights of littoral states, and the navigation regime.

Within the meeting, the foreign ministers summarized the progress of preparation to the forthcoming Summit of the Caspian Five.

The Protocol Resolution of the Foreign Ministers of the Caspian Littoral States was adopted, which reflects the further actions of the parties aimed at implementation of the provisions of the Convention on the Legal Status of the Caspian Sea to be signed at the Fifth Caspian Summit.
