The Agreement on establishment of diplomatic and consular relations between Kazakhstan and Pakistan was signed on February 24, 1992.
The Embassy of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the Islamic Republic of Pakistan opened in 1994. Since 2006 the Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Pakistan – B.Shabarbayev.
The Embassy of Pakistan in Kazakhstan opened in 1992. Since October, 2013 the Ambassador of Pakistan to Kazakhstan – Shaukat Ali Mukadam.
A landmark event in the establishment of bilateral relations was the state visit of the President N.Nazarbayev to Pakistan in February 24, 1992. During the visit basic documents on establishment of bilateral relations between the two countries were signed.
13-14 January 1994 – official visit of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan A.Ali to Kazakhstan. The parties signed a protocol on cooperation between the foreign ministries of the two countries.
August 30, 1994 – visit of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan K.Saudabayev to Pakistan.
August 23-25, 1995 – official visit of B.Bhutto, Prime-Minister of Pakistan, to Kazakhstan. Joint Statement on Prospects of bilateral relations was adopted as the result of the visit.
28-30 October, 1996 – official visit of Faruq Ahmad Khan Leghari, President of Pakistan, to Kazakhstan. Joint Statement on Prospects of bilateral relations was signed during the visit.
18-19 June 1997 – working visit of G.A.Khan, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan, to Almaty.
5-7 March 1999 – visit of K.-Zh. Tokayev, Foreign Minister of Kazakhstan, to Pakistan.
November 6-7, 2000 – working visit of the Head of Executive Authority of Pakistan Pervez Musharraf to Kazakhstan. During the visit the two leaders confirmed their commitment to deepen bilateral relations.
December 8-9, 2003 – official visit of Nursultan Nazarbayev, President of Kazakhstan, to Pakistan. Legal base for the development of bilateral relations between Kazakhstan and Pakistan was expanded during the visit.
June 17, 2006 – President of Pakistan P.Musharraf participated in the II CICA Summit in Almaty.
15 June, 2011 – President of Pakistan Asif Ali Zardari participated in the anniversary SCO summit in Astana.
6-7 September, 2011 – official visit of Pakistan's Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani to Astana. During the visit, an agreement on cooperation between the Chamber of Commerce of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Federation of Chambers of Commerce of Pakistan was signed
Cooperation is steadily developing within regional and international organizations, including the UN, OIC, CICA, SCO, ECO, etc.
Kazakh-Pakistan Joint Commission on trade-economic, scientific-technical and cultural cooperation is an important tool for the development and deepening the bilateral cooperation. Seven meetings of the commission were held, the last was on 14-15 April 2011 in Islamabad.
The trade turnover between Kazakhstan and Pakistan in 2013 reached 44,3 million US dollars (export – 4,5 million, import – 39,8 million US dollars). In 2012 trade turnover was 35,6 million US dollars (export – 14,6 million, import – 21 million US dollars). In 2011 trade turnover was 33,1 million US dollars (export – 3,5 million, import – 29,5 million US dollars).
