Development of Economic Dialogue between Kazakhstan and Hungary Discussed in Budapest

BUDAPEST – As part of Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev's initiative regarding the “economization” of the country's foreign policy, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Yermek Kosherbaev paid a working visit to Hungary.

Mr. Kosherbaev held meetings with a State Secretary of the Hungarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade Levente Magyar, State Secretary of the Ministry of Finance Gabor Gion, President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry Parragh László, as well as representatives of a number of agricultural, industrial, medical and textile companies.

The visit also saw the meetings with the government officials. The sides discussed bilateral and multilateral cooperation. It was noted that there is a complete mutual understanding and similarity of positions between Kazakhstan and Hungary on global and regional issues.

They also discussed the upcoming visit to Astana by Hungary's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Mihály Varga, scheduled for this April-May, as well as meetings of the Kazakh-Hungarian Strategic Council.

In addition, in May Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary Péter Szijjártó plans to visit Astana to take part in the 12th Astana Economic Forum.

It is expected that during the visits of these Hungarian officials, representative business circles will also arrive in Kazakhstan, with the aim of developing trade and economic cooperation, increasing bilateral trade, and implementing economic mechanisms of interaction between the two countries.

Mr. Kosherbaev also discussed fulfilling the potential of the Kazakhstan-Hungarian Direct Investment Fund. In particular, the sides expressed satisfaction at the construction of a large greenhouse facility in the Aktobe region, to be opened on 4 April this year.

In general, the visit served to intensify bilateral cooperation between Kazakhstan and Hungary. Budapest regards Astana as its main strategic partner in Central Asia, and is committed to developing trade relations and increasing investment in the agricultural and industrial sectors of the Kazakh economy.
