ASTANA, March 18, 2019 - The 52nd meeting of the Commission on Cooperation of the Republic of Kazakhstan with international organizations was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The meeting addressed the strengthening of cooperation between Kazakhstan and international organizations, including in the context of the implementation of the goals and objectives of the country's strategic development, identified by President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev.
“Our goal is to keep pace and continue active joint work to increase the practical benefits of cooperation with international organizations, enhance the role of Kazakhstan in decision-making processes in global and regional organizations. This is important in light of the country's objectives of joining the top 30 most developed countries," Deputy Foreign Minister Yerzhan Ashikbayev stressed.
“To achieve this in the conditions of growing global competition, it is necessary to continue the systemic restructuring of cooperation approaches, focusing on promoting the foreign economic interests of our country," he specified.
Special attention was paid to the analysis of the effectiveness of Kazakhstan's membership in international organizations. The report of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Kazakhstan on its engagement with relevant international agencies was presented. In addition, proposals of a number of concerned state authorities were considered, including on the accession of gas exporting countries to the Forum, and the accommodation in Kazakhstan of the Regional Adviser Office of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime in Central Asia. Issues related to Kazakhstan's cooperation under the Montreal Protocol to the Vienna Convention for the Protection of the Ozone Layer were also raised.
Following the meeting, state authorities were advised to more actively use the opportunities and capacity of the supervised international organizations, funds and programs to strengthen the economic component of cooperation, improve the business climate, social policy, address specific development issues, implement investment projects, develop e-commerce, and integrate small and medium businesses into the global trade.
