President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev holds talks with the European Council President

President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev thanked Donald Tusk, the President of the European Council, for his official visit to Kazakhstan and stressed its symbolism on the Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Political Repressions.

“The adoption by the European Council of a new strategy and your visit today demonstrate that the European side is interested in the politically stable, economically sustainable and safe development of the countries of Central Asia", said the President of Kazakhstan.

Kassym-Jomart Tokayev noted that the visit of Donald Tusk opened a new chapter in the dialogue between Nur-Sultan and Brussels.

“Kazakhstan became the first Central Asian country to sign the 'second generation' agreement with the EU. This suggests that our relations are growing stronger. We are actively involved in the deepening of strategic partnerships with all European countries. Kazakhstan's program “The Path to Europe" and EU strategies for Central Asia are examples of our successful cooperation in various fields. Given these achievements, we are optimistic about the future cooperation with the European Union", the Head of State said.

Donald Tusk, in turn, thanked the President of Kazakhstan for the warm welcome and the opportunity to make his first official visit to Nur-Sultan.

“The European Union has defined its strategy for deepening its partnership with Central Asia. Kazakhstan is the key partner of the EU in the region. Your country is a bridge between East and West, between Russia and South Asia. The EU is the main trade and investment partner of Kazakhstan. The Enhanced Partnership and Cooperation Agreement with Kazakhstan will soon be ratified by all EU countries; we have already begun to implement it", the President of the European Council stressed.

Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and Donald Tusk told reporters that they had a fruitful exchange of views on an array of issues of global and regional security, as well as on deepening bilateral cooperation in energy, transport and digital communication.
