July 15, 1992 established diplomatic relations between the Republic of Kazakhstan and Romania.
In November 1993 was opened the Embassy of Romania in the Republic of Kazakhstan.
In September 2003 was opened the Diplomatic Mission of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Romania.
In March 2012 the President of Kazakhstan signed a decree on reorganization of the Diplomatic mission into the Embassy of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Romania.
Since May 2017 - Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Romania in the Republic of Kazakhstan is Mr. Cesar Manole Armeanu.
Since 30 September 2019 - Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Kazakhstan is Mr. Nurbakh Rustemov.
Kazakhstan pays special attention to the development of relations with Romania as a key partner in Eastern Europe and the Balkans.
In a short historical period, the two states achieved significant progress in all areas of bilateral cooperation, including political, trade-economic, cultural and humanitarian spheres, as well as in the field of multilateral cooperation.
Kazakhstan and Romania support regular political dialogue, in the Parliaments of both countries functions a "Friendship groups". Annual meetings of deputies of the two countries are held.
Countries coordinate their efforts within the framework of the UN, OSCE and other international organizations. Romania supported the chairmanship of Kazakhstan in the OSCE and the OSCE Summit in Nur-Sultan in 2010, the holding and participation in Nur-Sultan EXPO 2017, the candidacy of Kazakhstan for non-permanent members of the UN Security Council for 2017-2018, Kazakhstan's accession to the Asia-Europe Forum (ASEM).
Romania ratified the Agreement on Enhanced Partnership and Cooperation between the Republic of Kazakhstan and the EU on May 10, 2017.
Annually political consultations are held between the ministries of foreign affairs of the two countries. The last consultations were held on December 17, 2018 in Bucharest.

September 2003 - official visit of the President of Romania I.Iliescu to Kazakhstan.

March 2010 - state visit of the President of Romania T. Basescu to Kazakhstan.
December 2010 - Working visit of the President of Romania T. Basescu to Kazakhstan as part of participation in the Summit of the OSCE in Nur-Sultan.

June 2013 - official visit of the Prime Minister of Romania V.Ponta to Kazakhstan.

July 1992 - official visit of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Romania A. Nastase to Kazakhstan, during which the Protocol on the establishment of diplomatic relations between Kazakhstan and Romania was signed.
November 2008 - working visit of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Romania L. Comanescu to Kazakhstan.July 2017 - the official visit of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Romania Teodor Melescanu to Kazakhstan on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries and the National Day of Romania at the international specialized exhibition EXPO-2017.
