Kazakhstan drops visa regime

In accordance with the Government resolution of the Republic of Kazakhstan dated 23 December 2016 No 838, “On amending the resolution of the Government of Kazakhstan dated 21 January 2012 No 148", citizens of following countries may enter and exit the Republic of Kazakhstan visa-free if the period of stay in Kazakhstan does not exceed 30 calendar days from the moment of crossing the State border of the Republic of Kazakhstan:

2. the Republic of Austria

3. the Kingdom of Belgium

4. the Republic of Bulgaria

5. Canada

6. the Republic of Chile

7. the Republic of Croatia

8. the Republic of Cyprus

9. the Czech Republic

10. the Kingdom of Denmark

11. the Republic of Estonia

12. the Republic of Finland

13. the French Republic

14. the Federal Republic of Germany

15. the Hellenic Republic

16. Hungary

17. Iceland

18. the Republic of Ireland

19. the State of Israel

20. the Italian Republic

21. Japan

Visa requirements

Please note that single entry business, tourist and private (up to one month) visas will be issued for nationals of 46 countries, without an official invitation arranged through Kazakh authorities (Ministry of Foreign Affairs/ Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan), on the basis of their personal or companies' written statements submitted to the Consular Section of the Embassy of Kazakhstan.

The citizens of the following countries DO NOT require an official invitation for a single business visa, tourist visas, single private visa (up to 30 day of validity):

the Principality of Liechtenstein, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Sultanate of Oman.


Single entry business, tourist, transit (up to 5 days only) and private visas

1. A completed visa application form (one per person). All fields must be completed and signed otherwise your application will be refused.

2. A letter with a request to issue a visa addressed to the Consular Section of the Embassy of Kazakhstan. Please, indicate the purpose of your trip, your contact in Kazakhstan, the dates of your planned trip, and places to be visited. Letter should be typed on computer, printed out and signed/stamped (if applicable). If you are not a citizen of the abovementioned 46 countries a copy of the invitation letter from a host organization in Kazakhstan with reference number is needed. This letter must be submitted by the host organization in Kazakhstan to the Migration Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The Department provides the host company with a reference number.

3. A valid passport (a photocopy will not be accepted) which should have at least 2 blank pages for a visa. Your passport must be valid for at least 3 months longer than the validity of the requested visa.

4. A new coloured photo of the applicant which should be stapled to the marked space in the upper right hand corner of the application form

5. Payment

6. A pre-paid self-addressed envelope if you wish your passport to be sent to you back by post.

NOTE: A tourist visa cannot be extended in Kazakhstan.


Multiple entry business, tourist and private visas

Documents required:

1. A completed visa application form (one per person). All fields must be completed and signed otherwise your application will be refused.

2. A copy of the invitation letter from a host organization in Kazakhstan with reference number is needed. This letter must be submitted by the host organization in Kazakhstan to the Migration Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The Department provides the host company with a reference number. In addition, a cover letter from the applicant's company, briefly summarizing the purpose of the visit and including some information about the company or organization should be attached.

3. A valid passport (a photocopy will not be accepted) which should have at least 2 blank pages for a visa. Your passport must be valid for at least 3 months longer than the validity of the requested visa.

4. A new coloured photo of the applicant which should be stapled to the marked space in the upper right hand corner of the application form

5. Payment

6. A pre-paid self-addressed envelope if you wish your passport to be sent to you back by post.


Diplomatic and Official Visas

Documents reguired:

1. A completed Visa application form (one per person). All fields must be completed and signed otherwise your application will be refused.

2. For all representatives of the Swiss Government and Agencies who are travelling to Kazakhstan on official purposes, an official letter from the official body has to be provided.

3. A valid passport (a photocopy will not be accepted) which should have at least 2 blank pages for a visa. Your passport must be valid for at least 3 months longer than the validity of the requested visa.

4. A new coloured photo of the applicant which should be stapled to the marked space in the upper right hand corner of the application form

5. A pre-paid self-addressed envelope if you wish your passport to be sent to you back by post.


Private Visas for 90 days

Documents reguired:

1. A completed visa application form (one per person). All fields must be completed and signed otherwise your application will be refused.

2. An original invitation letter issued by the Immigration Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) of the Republic of Kazakhstan is required. Your relatives or friends in Kazakhstan can obtain invitation from the local authorities of MIA and send it to your address. The period of stay in Kazakhstan is shown in a separate paragraph and must not exceed 90 days

3. A valid passport (a photocopy will not be accepted) which should have at least 2 blank pages for a visa. Your passport must be valid for at least 3 months longer than the validity of the requested visa.

4. A new coloured photo of the applicant which should be stapled to the marked space in the upper right hand corner of the application form

5. Payment

6. A pre-paid self-addressed envelope if you wish your passport to be sent to you back by post.

Please note that according to the article 554 point 7 of the Tax Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan the paid consular fees are not to be returned.
Applications and claims on visa fees refunding are not the subject to review.
